Ephesians 2:4-9 - But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Finally, the passage points to the ultimate purpose of our salvation - to display the immeasurable riches of God's grace for all eternity. Our salvation is not just about us, but about bringing glory to God and showcasing His incredible kindness and mercy. This gives us a new perspective and purpose for our lives as believers.

As I reflect on Ephesians 2:4-9, I am struck by the incredible depth of God's love and grace towards us. The fact that He would save us and make us alive in Christ even when we were completely dead in our sins is a stunning display of His mercy. It goes against all human logic and reasoning. We deserved nothing but judgement and condemnation, yet God in His great love reached down and rescued us. This passage also challenges me to remember that my salvation is entirely a work of grace. So often I can fall into the trap of thinking that I somehow earned or deserved God's favor through my own efforts or goodness. But Ephesians 2 makes it clear that salvation is a gift that cannot be earned. It is not a result of works, so that no one can boast. This means that I cannot take any credit for my salvation or look down on others who are not believers. It is all about God's grace, not my own merit. At the same time, this passage also fills me with incredible hope and confidence. Because my salvation is based on God's grace and not my own performance, I know that it is secure. I don't have to live in fear of losing my salvation every time I stumble or fail. God's grace is greater than all my sins. And the spiritual blessings I have in Christ are not based on my own strength, but on my position in Him. I am seated with Christ in the heavenly realms, and I have access to all the power and authority that comes with being a child of God. Finally, this passage challenges me to live with a new perspective and purpose. If the ultimate reason for my salvation is to display God's grace, then that should be the driving force behind everything I do. My life should be all about making much of Jesus and pointing others to the incredible riches of His kindness and mercy. This means living with humility, generosity, and sacrificial love. It means being willing to lay down my own comfort and preferences for the sake of the gospel. As I go about my day today, I want to carry this truth with me. I want to remember that I am saved by grace alone, and that my life is meant to be a display of God's undeserved kindness and favor. I want to live with confidence in my identity in Christ, while also extending that same grace and mercy to others. May my life be a beautiful picture of the immeasurable riches of God's grace, both now and for all eternity.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the incredible grace and mercy You have shown me in Christ. Thank You that even when I was dead in my sins, You made me alive and raised me up with Jesus. I know that I did nothing to deserve this salvation - it is all a gift of Your unmerited favor. Lord, please help me to never lose sight of the depth of Your love for me. Keep me from falling into the trap of self-righteousness or thinking that I can earn Your approval through my own efforts. Help me to rest in the finished work of Christ and to find my identity and security in Him alone. At the same time, I pray that You would use my life to display the riches of Your grace to the world around me. Give me boldness to share the good news of the gospel with others, and let my words and actions point people to the hope and salvation found in You alone. Thank You for the spiritual blessings I have in Christ. Help me to walk in the power and authority that is mine through Him.
