1 Corinthians 11:23-26 - For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

In this passage, Paul reminds the Corinthians of the tradition he passed on to them regarding the Lord's Supper. On the night Jesus was betrayed, he shared a final meal with his disciples. During this meal, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, telling his disciples that the bread represented his body given for them. In the same way, he took the cup of wine and told them it represented the new covenant in his blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins. He instructed them to continue sharing bread and wine together in remembrance of him until he returns. Lord Jesus, we thank you for instituting this holy meal to remind us of your sacrifice. As we partake of the bread and cup, we remember your body broken and your blood poured out for the forgiveness of our sins. Fill us with gratitude and awe for the great price you paid to reconcile us to God. May this act of remembrance also turn our eyes to the future, filling us with hope and eager anticipation for the day we will share in the coming feast with you.
