Salvation

Reading

Romans 10:9-13 - If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, 'Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.' For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

Summary

In Romans 10:9-13, Paul explains how one can be saved and receive righteousness from God. He makes it clear that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, and not by works. Paul emphasizes that salvation is available to both Jews and Gentiles, as there is no distinction between them. To be saved, one must confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. This confession and belief results in righteousness and salvation. Paul quotes Old Testament scriptures to back up these claims, showing that the gospel was foretold. He explains that people must hear the gospel preached in order to believe, so preachers must be sent out. Though not all Israelites accepted the gospel, as Isaiah prophesied, faith comes from hearing the preached message about Christ.

Reflection

This passage is such an encouragement, reminding me that salvation is freely available to all who believe in Jesus. I don't have to try to earn my way to heaven or do enough good works - I simply need to confess Jesus as Lord and believe He rose from the dead. What amazing grace! I'm thankful that this gift of salvation isn't based on my ethnicity or background either. Whether I was born a Jew or Gentile, God graciously offers me salvation through faith in Christ. I'm reminded of the importance of sharing this good news as well. People need to hear the gospel preached in order to believe. I want to make sure I'm available to share this message with others, so that they too can come to salvation in Jesus.

Prayer

Father God, thank You for the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus! I praise You that I don't have to try to earn righteousness, but simply need to believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. What an amazing gift of grace! I pray that many would hear and respond to this good news. Please help me be bold in sharing the gospel with others, so that they can believe and be saved. May many put their faith in Christ and receive eternal life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
