Romans 15:13-17 - And not only that, but we also have as our hope the seal of what is to come. God is the one who seals us and gives us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment. Therefore, I speak to you in this way. And I am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.

In this passage, Paul encourages the believers in Rome to have hope and be unified in Christ. He reminds them that nothing is unclean in itself, but if eating certain foods causes a brother to stumble, then refraining from eating those foods is the loving thing to do. Paul wants the believers to walk in love and not let disagreements over food destroy the unity they have in Christ.

This passage challenges me to think more carefully about how my actions affect other believers, especially those who may have different convictions than me. It's easy for me to insist on my freedom in Christ, but that can harm the faith of a brother or sister who is not yet convinced they have that same freedom. While I must follow my own conscience, I should be willing to limit my freedom out of love for others, so that I do not hinder their walk with God. Unity in the body of Christ is so important, and should be protected even when it requires personal sacrifice on my part.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the freedom we have in You, and that nothing is unclean in itself. Help me to walk in love toward my brothers and sisters, being sensitive to how my actions affect their faith. Give me wisdom to know when limiting my freedom can help protect the unity of Your church. May Your body be built up in love. Amen.
