John 6:35-40 - Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

In this passage from John 6, Jesus declares that He is the bread of life. He tells the crowds who are following Him that they should not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures to eternal life. Jesus says that He is this bread of life, and whoever comes to Him and believes in Him will never be hungry or thirsty again. He will raise them up on the last day. Jesus emphasizes that no one can come to Him unless the Father draws them. Even when many disciples turn away because His teaching is difficult, Jesus reiterates that His words are spirit and life. He knows that true belief is a gift from the Father.

This passage reminds me that Jesus alone can satisfy my deepest spiritual hunger. Just as food is vital for physical life, Jesus is vital for eternal life. I can't manufacture this spiritual life on my own - it's a gift God offers me through faith in His Son. Even when Jesus' words are challenging or confusing, I'm called to continue trusting Him. His teachings are spirit and life, even if I don't fully grasp them yet. I'm thankful that God draws me to Jesus. My role is simply to respond in faith, trusting that Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the only thing that can satisfy my soul's hunger for meaning, purpose, and eternal life.

Lord Jesus, thank You for declaring boldly that You alone are the bread of life. Forgive me for the times I have tried to satisfy my spiritual hunger with things other than You. Teach me to come to You daily, fixing my eyes on the cross and receiving Your life by faith. Nourish my soul with Your Word and Your Spirit. Help me walk closely with You all the days of my life. Amen.
