Reading

Genesis 46:1-7 - So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph’s hand shall close your eyes.” Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. They also took their livestock and their goods, which they had gained in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters. All his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.

Summary

Jacob's family journeyed with him to Egypt as God had promised. Though they faced an uncertain future in a new land, God assured Jacob that He would be with them and make them into a great nation. No matter what challenges we face with our own families, we can take comfort knowing that God is faithful to His promises and will guide us through each season of life.

Reflection

In times of transition or uncertainty, it can be difficult to trust that God has our best interests in mind. Jacob's family must have felt apprehensive about leaving the land they knew for an unknown future in Egypt. Yet God had shown Jacob that He would be with them every step of the way. Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates His faithfulness time and again, even when we cannot see the full picture. Like Jacob, we must choose to place our faith in God's promises rather than our fears. Though we may not understand His plans, we can rest assured that He will never leave us or forsake us. In every season of joy or sorrow, God promises to walk alongside us and guide our paths. May we find comfort, as Jacob did, in knowing the God of our fathers goes before us each day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness through all generations. When the road ahead seems unclear, give us eyes to see Your hand at work. Help us to trust that You will direct our paths and watch over our families, just as You guided Jacob and his household to Egypt. May Your promises of presence and provision sustain us through every challenge. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
