Reading

Revelation 1:1-6 - The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood

Summary

The Book of Revelation was written by the apostle John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos. In the first chapter, John receives a vision from Jesus Christ, who instructs him to write down the things he has seen, the present circumstances of the seven churches in Asia Minor, and the prophetic events that will take place in the future. John greets the seven churches and identifies Jesus as the faithful witness, firstborn from the dead, and ruler of the kings of the earth. He praises Jesus for freeing us from our sins by his blood and making us a kingdom of priests to serve God.

Reflection

This passage reminds me that even in the midst of suffering and persecution, Jesus sees our circumstances and cares for his church. Though exiled and isolated, John was given profound revelation about God's plans and purposes. I'm encouraged to persevere through trials, stay connected to the body of Christ, and keep my eyes fixed on the hope of Jesus' return. No matter what we face in this life, Jesus has freed us from sin and made us part of his eternal kingdom. My life is hidden with Christ, so I can have joy and peace even in the darkest of days.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for the incredible gift of the Book of Revelation and the glimpse you give us into the future fulfillment of your plans. Help me to trust you more each day, keeping my eyes fixed on eternity. Give me wisdom to understand your word and courage to live it out, that I may bring you glory in all things. Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Amen.
