Reading

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 - For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, 'This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.' For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

Summary

In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, the apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian church of the significance of the Lord's Supper. He recounts the words of Jesus during the Last Supper, where Jesus took bread and declared it to be His body, broken for them. He also took the cup and declared it to be the new covenant in His blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sins. Paul emphasizes that whenever the believers partake of the bread and cup, they proclaim the Lord's death until He comes again. This act of communion is not only a remembrance of Christ's sacrifice, but also a declaration of their faith and anticipation of His return.

Reflection

The practice of communion holds deep meaning for Christians. It is a time to remember and reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus, who willingly gave His body and shed His blood for our redemption. It is a reminder of the new covenant established through His death, where our sins are forgiven and we are reconciled to God. Communion also serves as a proclamation of our faith, publicly declaring our belief in Jesus' death and resurrection. As we partake in the bread and cup, we are united with Christ and with one another as the body of Christ. It is a sacred moment of communion with our Savior and with fellow believers.

Prayer

Dear Lord, we thank You for the gift of communion, where we can remember and proclaim Your death until You come again. Help us to approach this sacred act with reverence and gratitude. May we always remember the significance of Your sacrifice and the new covenant established through Your blood. As we partake in communion, may it deepen our faith, unite us with You and with one another, and remind us of the hope we have in Your return. In Jesus' name, Amen.
