Romans 10:1-15 - Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!

Summary

In Romans 10:1-15, Paul expresses his deep desire and prayer for the salvation of the Israelites. He acknowledges their zeal for God but also their lack of knowledge about how to attain God's righteousness. Paul emphasizes that righteousness is not achieved through keeping the law but through faith in Christ. He urges the Israelites to confess Jesus as Lord and believe in His resurrection for salvation. Paul reminds them that there is no distinction between Jews and Gentiles in God's eyes, and that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. He also highlights the importance of preaching the good news so that people can hear and believe. Paul's heart breaks for his people, and he longs for them to turn to Christ and receive God's righteousness.

Reflection

Paul's words in Romans 10 remind us of the essential role of faith in our salvation. It is not our own efforts or religious practices that make us righteous before God, but our belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This passage challenges us to examine our own hearts and make sure that our faith is rooted in Christ alone. We should also be motivated to share the good news with others, just as Paul emphasizes the importance of preaching. God's desire is for all people to be saved, and we have the privilege of being His messengers. Let us be bold in proclaiming the truth of the gospel and praying for the salvation of those who have yet to hear and believe.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before you with hearts burdened for those who have yet to know and believe in Jesus Christ. We pray for the salvation of our friends, family members, neighbors, and even strangers who have not yet encountered the good news. Help us to be faithful witnesses, sharing the message of faith in Christ with love and compassion. Give us the courage to proclaim the truth, even in the face of opposition or rejection. Lord, we pray for the Israelites and all who are still seeking righteousness through their own efforts. Open their hearts and minds to the truth of your salvation through faith in Jesus. May they confess Him as Lord and believe in His resurrection. We thank you for your patience and love, and we trust in your perfect timing for the salvation of all who call on your name. In Jesus' name, amen.
