Isaiah 26:3-10 - You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust. The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.” The path of the righteous is level; you make level the way of the righteous. In the path of your judgments, O Lord, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul.

This passage from Isaiah speaks of the peace that comes from keeping one's mind fixed on God. Verse 3 promises that 'You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.' True peace comes from trusting in God as our rock and foundation. While the world may see turmoil, for those who trust in God there is a stability and calm. The passage contrasts this with the way of the wicked, who know no peace. Their lives are in constant turmoil as they reject God. It ends by saying the desire of the righteous is to wait on God and have Him be the object of our soul's longing.

In a world of so much uncertainty and unrest, it is comforting to know we can have true peace by fixing our mind on God. So often our peace is disrupted because our thoughts are focused on our problems or circumstances rather than placing our trust in God. We forget that He is sovereign over all things and will work all things for good for those who love Him. When life feels tumultuous, we would do well to meditate on who God is - our strong tower and refuge - and let our souls find rest in Him. Though the world may be in upheaval, we can walk in perfect peace by keeping our eyes on Jesus rather than on the storm. May we each seek to continually renew our trust in His faithfulness so His peace can guard our hearts and minds each day.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise of perfect peace that comes from staying our minds on you. When fears and anxieties try to disrupt our tranquility, remind us that you are in control of all things. Help us to consciously fix our thoughts on your goodness, faithfulness, and sovereignty over this world. As circumstances around us appear unstable, may the stability and security we have in you be our anchor. Fill us afresh with your peace that surpasses all understanding. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
